Project "Save Health care Providers in West Africa"
Act for Africa International, Inc. realized health systems were having to meet the challenges of the Ebola epidemic with limited medical equipment, resources, manpower and infrastructures which could allow the continued widespread of the virus. With the Mission's health initiatives in mind, members, volunteers and donors answered the call to assist in helping to fight the Ebola virus.
South Riding Canvassing Event
In October 2014, Act for Africa kicked off its special fundraising campaign to help healthcare providers combat Ebola on Ghanatcradio.com. To raise awareness, our members and volunteers successfully coordinated a canvassing event in South Riding, Virginia, as well as maintain informational posts on Facebook and Twitter reaching over 15,000 through social media.
AFA-PHIL Donation Ceremony
Additionally, Act for Africa International, Inc. partnered with Public Health Initiative Liberia (PHIL) in January 15 and hosted a donation ceremony in Aldie, Virginia. Act for Africa presented Director of PHIL, Ms. Joyce Kilikpo Jarwolo with 36 infrared thermometers and 475 hand sanitizers. The thermometers will give doctors and nurses a way to quickly take the temperatures of masses of people without the risk of transmitting Ebola though body contact. The hand santizers can kill the Ebola virus living outside a host according to the CDC recommendations.
